Areas of practice
Considered legal work, clearly scoped.
The areas below are common starting points rather than a complete list. Other matters are welcome for an initial assessment, in English, Portuguese or Italian.
Contracts
Drafting & review
Contracts are where commercial risk concentrates. Agreements are drafted to protect your position, and contracts received from others are reviewed clause by clause to identify what is unusual, what is missing and what should be renegotiated, with a clear recommendation on each point.
Typical work
- Service agreements and consultancy contracts
- Terms of business and website terms
- Supplier, freelancer and confidentiality agreements
- Written risk reports on contracts you received
- Negotiation support and mark-ups
- Contract templates for repeat use
- Amendments, variations and renewal reviews
- Bilingual contracts in English, Portuguese and Italian
Compliance
Anti-money laundering & data protection
Compliance frameworks built from practical in-house experience, designed to meet regulatory expectations and to be workable for a small team: proportionate, well documented and ready for inspection.
Typical work
- Written AML risk assessments and policies
- Client due diligence and onboarding procedures
- Data protection audits, privacy notices and data maps
- Data protection impact assessments
- Sanctions and PEP screening procedures
- Compliance reviews before supervisory inspections
- Staff training in English, Portuguese or Italian
- Ongoing compliance support on a retained basis
Commercial
Business legal support
Ongoing legal support for businesses without an in-house legal team: familiarity with how the business operates, prompt responses, and costs agreed in advance. Suited to founders, freelancers and family businesses, including Portuguese- and Italian-speaking owners.
Typical work
- Day-to-day commercial legal questions
- Letters before action and pre-action correspondence
- Employment documents, staff handbooks and policies
- Consumer law and trading standards questions
- Monthly retainer support packages
- Referral to regulated firms where a matter requires one
Cross-border
International & legal translation
For Portuguese and Italian-speaking clients in the UK, and for businesses operating across jurisdictions: clear information on how foreign legal processes work, with referral to local lawyers where formal advice is required, and precise legal translation that understands the law behind the words.
Typical work
- Information on Brazilian legal procedures and documents
- Coordination with lawyers in Brazil, including briefing and follow-up
- Legal translation between Portuguese, English and Italian
- Translation of contracts, court documents, certificates and official records
- Document preparation for use across jurisdictions
- Written summaries of foreign documents in the client's language
This service provides information on Brazilian legal procedures and translation. It does not constitute advice on Brazilian law. Where formal advice is required, clients are referred to lawyers registered with the OAB in Brazil. UK immigration advice and immigration services are not provided.
Fees & engagement
Pricing you can plan around.
Whichever model suits the matter, the fee is agreed in writing before work begins, and client money is never held on account.
Fixed fee
One agreed price for a defined piece of work. Most contract, document and translation work is quoted this way.
- Quoted in writing before work starts
- The full cost known from the outset
- Any change in scope agreed before additional cost arises
Hourly rate
For matters that develop over time, such as negotiations and ongoing disputes, with written estimates and regular updates.
- Rate confirmed in the engagement letter
- Written estimate and an agreed cap
- Itemised time on every invoice
Retainer
An agreed number of hours each month for businesses wanting legal and compliance support on call.
- Predictable monthly cost
- Priority response times
- Quarterly review of hours used
Invoices are issued for work completed, and client money is never held on account. Payment is by bank transfer; cash is not accepted.
